Employment of persons with disabilities
The Law on professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities came into effect on May 23rd 2009, with the basic aim to facilitate achievement of the right to work for persons with disabilities. The Law includes a range of incentives and subventions for employers which behave socially responsible. However, a severe punitive policy was promoted for those who do not abide by the stipulations of the law. Even though the law was enacted on May 23rd 2009, employers were given a period of one year to prepare for putting it into effect, thus the provisions of the law on compulsory employment of persons with disabilities came into effect on May 23rd 2010. Every employer who employs between 21 and 50 workers is obliged to have at least one person with disabilities among the employees, and one per every new started 50. Important information for all newly founded companies is that they are exempt from this obligation in the first 24 months from the day of founding.
